Global Management Certification
The global management certificate program prepares individuals for opportunities in international business. In today's marketplace, service- and product-based companies face broader competition far beyond traditional boundaries. Getting further training and certifications in these areas is a good way to advance your career and be a competitive applicant in the modern workforce.
Opportunities for Global Career Management
Both large and small businesses have opportunities for global expansion and both can benefit from cross-cultural business dealings. Students and seasoned professionals alike are electing to pursue specific training for the international arena.
For students, some universities provide global management certificate programs that incorporate language education along with specialized classes. For undergrads, this provides a greater opportunity to compete for jobs and find internships.
Within the global management field, students can further specialize their knowledge and education path by studying:
- global commercial management
- global human resources management
- global information technology management
- global project management
- global trade management.
Global Management Training
To earn a global management certification, students will have to take several courses, including some based on cultural differences and political influences. Typical coursework will include important basics, such as:
- developing management skills and human resource needs for foreign workers
- developing new strategies for success
- discovering technological advantages
- gaining an understanding of cultural practices and how they impact business relations
- learning how to negotiate successfully with foreign partners
- working within the parameters of government regulations.
Some of the required basic courses may include:
- Economics
- Finance
- Marketing
- Political Theory.
Some certificate programs may require you to take additional classes related to international training. While hands-on experience is not always a prerequisite, it is highly recommended in some cases.
Types of Global Management Programs
Training for global management can be instructor-led through traditional on-site programs or through online programs. Each has advantages, and costs will vary according to course levels (Undergraduate courses tend to be less expensive than post-graduate classes). Here is a closer look at the pros and cons of online versus traditional campus certification programs:
- Online programs: Many online programs provide training for professionals already in the workplace. These accelerated courses cover very broad points under an international scope. This includes providing a knowledge base of international business concepts along with the underlying legal and cultural impact on any given operation. Instructors are highly trained and possess hands-on skills in their subject areas.
In general, online global management certificate training is more economical than on-campus courses. Those who work, take care of the families or are attending a school that does not offer international programs are best suited for online global management programs. Taking classes online allows students to set their pace and still have access to qualified instructors.
- On-site programs: On-site programs are available in many locations around the world. These are intensive and can last three weeks or longer. Requirements may include existing experience in international economics. Fees are approximately $10,000 for this type of training, excluding travel and accommodations.
For those not already entrenched in a global management career, there are also options for undergraduates. The range of per-unit costs is anywhere between $150 and $900.
At the MBA level, students can incorporate a global management certificate into their existing schedule. This could include a course load of 16 hours in internationally focused class work.
