Ph.D.: An award and formal recognition for advanced study beyond the Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree. The highest degree in a field of study. Also known as a Doctoral Degree or Doctorate.

portfolio: A collection of original creative works collected to be shown to potential customers or employers.

prior learning: Any of a number of learning experiences occurring in a person's life that can be evaluated and applied toward academic credit.

program requirements: Courses of study that a person must complete to graduate or receive a specific degree.

résumé: A summary of an individual's career and education.

scholarship: A form of financial aid given to students to help pay for schooling. Scholarships are offered by governments, colleges and private, outside sources and do not have to be repaid. Scholarships can be awarded based on financial need, merit or both.

semester: A period of study.

student loan: Loans offered to students to assist in paying for education. Students must repay student loans soon after graduating or terminating studies.
